Pearls

Pearls, the most human of gems, seem to glow of their own light, smooth-skinned like a lover, and carrying some of that same ruddiness; a blush of passion not formed in an instant, but over years of turning pain into a pleasure, a ‘pebble in the shoe’ to a feast of light for the eyes. Layers of dreams coated over a shard of sand. Could one peel back those pearlescent dreams, like a monochromatic jawbreaker, would you taste the salty ocean currents and feel the swaying of the tide?
