Frogbot in Love

From my college days, this piece is composed entirely from samples I recorded and edited from balloons and tracked via my sampler. I added the slideshow many years ago for a live concert to add some visual interest.

Recordings of Electro-Acoustic, Etc.

  • Frogbot in Love : A recording of the ‘balloon music’ used in the video above.
  • Meditation on 5-4 : I was very into ‘just intonation’ and microtonality for a good portion of my college career. I eventually abandoned my work in this area after creating a number of microtonal instruments, including a software-based organ tuning, a full set of tri-tonal chimes and a large set of boomwhacker-like tubes also in that same tuning. All these instruments were tuned based on perfect, just-intoned thirds, rather than on perfect fifths. I eventually found all this impractical. However, this piece is interesting and I think worth the effort.
  • 7 Voices in the 11th Hour : I asked seven different students, myself included, to go to various places on campus and start their recorders at the same time, 11 am, arranging to rendezvous back together and stop our recorders. I then took the recordings and edited them into a piece.
  • What is Music? : A hilariously terrible live performance art piece / essay presented at a concert of the Salty Cricket Composer Collective. Various readers and singers were stationed around the audience with a fair amount of improv involved. You sort of had to be there for the full effect. 🙂
  • The Holy Warriors – A Dune Tribute : I was a very big Dune fan at one point. The EDM backtrack of this song was composed entirely from a sample library of classic 80’s synthesizers – the vocals performed by myself.
