Early Memories

Some of my earliest happy memories …

The exhilaration of singing “The Spirit of God” at the top of my lungs in church as a young child. My father tried to quiet me, but my mother told him to let me sing.

Dancing around the living room to the original Star Wars soundtrack and Tomita’s Night on Bald Mountain (my brother’s record) at about 6 or 7 … turning it ‘way up’ when the parents were out.

A crazy water fight we all got into, even my Mom. Even the living room got wet … and my Mom didn’t get mad!

When I had my tonsils out in Kindergarten, I got to keep the class mascot, Fluffy the Bunny, with me the entire month I was in recovery. My whole class drew pictures for me that were sent home.

Being one of the Cratchit children in a church production of a Christmas Carol.

Writing crazy 3-part music on the included composition program on our Tandy computer and realizing that when I wrote music I could do anything I wanted.

Writing and singing my own songs, even if I’d be embarrassed to share these early efforts today.

Writing poetry and being surprised when I found some tidbit of wisdom inside me that I’d have never guessed was in there. Perhaps it wasn’t until the writing brought it to life.
